Greetings from Miles Lewis of Austin MUFON

I am the recently appointed State Section Director for the Travis and Williamson county chapters of the Mutual UFO Network; the world’s largest, non-profit, civilian ufo research organization. This letter is intended to notify the media and the public about our continuing local efforts to provide timely and reliable information and resources dedicated to the discovery of the origins of the ufo phenomenon.

I’ve followed the activities of Austin MUFON for the past decade and watched its progress under the direction of both Ellen Stuart and Lemoin Pitman. During this decade Austin has hosted several ufo conferences including the 25th Anniversary Annual International MUFON Symposium held back in July of 1994. This same time period saw the rise of the local UFO Experiencer Support Group which I led for over five years.

During its nearly decade long history, Austin MUFON’s local membership levels have ebbed and flowed. Austin has a rich modern ufo history and the open-mindedness of its local community has been reflected within our local MUFON chapter’s membership. But despite ever growing interest in the subject of UFOs and related phenomena, there has been a gradual decrease in attendance at local monthly meetings. This is likely due to the dirth of information available on the internet and television. However the quantity of information is often at the detriment of quality. The media continue to spread the popular culture surrounding UFOs as opposed to the scientific research being done which could somedayhelp us determine the origin(s) of these phenomena.

Therefore Austin MUFON seeks to revitalize the local meetings to better represent the needs of Austin’s ufo curious community. Through progressive speakers, media packages and interviews, as well as our expanding web site, we will better inform the public as to the reality of the UFO phenomenon and the many scientific challenges this enigma represents.
