GREETINGS:
Hello again from SMiles & Austin MUFON,
I hope this email finds you doing well and staying cool during this long hot Texas Summer. Its been quite a couple of months; I recently had the opportunity to move closer in town and get the valuable Austin MUFON Reference Library out of harms way (my last residence was in a flood plain).

MEETINGS:
The August meeting is this Saturday the 28th at the usual time and place: downtown at the Austin History Center, 9th and Guadalupe, the O’Henry room from 1-4 pm. There will be much to discuss, especially regarding MUFON’s renewed vigor after recent drafts of a five year plan to revitalize its activities and membership, as well as news of Walt Andrus’ coming retirement and his would-be successor’s filling of the position and the relocation of MUFON’s headquarters.
Last month’s meeting we were graced by a visit from friends Joe Juliano and Andy Abercrombie. Andy told us all about the July MUFON Symposium held in Virginia which featured Budd Hopkins, Jenny Randles, Joe Firmage and more. A good time was had by all and much information was exchanged.
So please join us this Saturday for more discussion on all areas ufological.

AUSTIN MUFON GALLERY:
Also, please be sure to visit the inaugural installment of the Austin MUFON
Gallery at our Capital of Texas Chapter web site at this url:

Here you will find a couple of pictures from the aforementioned MUFON
symposium. These were taken and sent to us from Mr Abercrombie and feature past
Austin MUFON leaders Ellen and Monte Stuart as well as a picture of them with
Budd Hopkins and another friend.
The Gallery also features a few pictures from the 25th Annual MUFON
Symposium held here in Austin back in 1994. Pictures include Walt Andrus, Linda
Cortile, Karla Turner and more.
If you have pictures from other local MUFON activities please feel free to
send them to us for posting in the Gallery.

CONSTANCE CLEAR:
The other day I was lucky to catch San Antonio’s own latest addition to the
UFO community, author and hypnotherapist Constance Clear. Clear was in Austin at
Bookpeople promoting her first UFO book Reaching For Reality. She describes it
as a book to help abductees cope with their experiences. Reaching For Reality
details the experiences of seven abductees who all live within 200 miles of the
San Antonio, Texas environs.
Constance Clear, M.A. M.S.W., is more than qualified to point out the
sanity of her patients. She formed an Abductee Support Group several years ago
in San Antonio which still meets regularly. Her book has been positively
received by San Antonio author/experiencer Whitley Strieber as well as abduction
researcher John Mack. Clear also reported that she has already appeared on both
the Art Bell and Jeff Rense radio shows and expects to return to the airwaves
soon, time permiting.
Constance Clear spent nearly two hours engaging the twenty to thirty
attendees at the free book-signing in rapt dialogue on the subject of alien
abduction. When we exchanged insights related to our both having led abduction
support groups the dialogue continued and increased in its depth. However, many
things were left unanswered, as is usually the case with all things ufological.
If you missed this book-signing or would like to see Constance Clear speak
again . . . check her out in San Antonio at the 36th Annual National UFO
Conference! Details below.

Previous Interim Reports:
Dear Austin MUFON members (and non-members),
Greetings from your new local leader. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Stephen Miles Lewis. As of last month I am officially the State Section Director for Travis and Williamson counties. My nomination and acceptance puts me in the shoes of the two fine UFO enthusiasts / researchers who came before me; Ellen Stuart and Lemoin Pitman. It is with great respect that I attempt to follow in their footsteps and do my best to take up where they left off.
Our local group has seen good times and hard times. We’ve seen local members come and go; some from lack of interest and others taken from us by fate. However, throughout these times there has been a sense of camaraderie illustrative of the best in our community. I hope to rekindle this element within our local community through high profile monthly speakers to be featured at the FringeWare bookstore and other venues.
At our February Austin MUFON meeting Lemoin Pitman “passed the gavel” to me in a momentous occasion wherein our past State Director Ellen Stuart and her “better half” Monte Stuart surprised us with a visit. By the end of this meeting nearly twenty people showed up to voice there opinions and congratulations on my recent appointment.
During this meeting the decision was made by all in attendance that the Austin MUFON Newsletter would be discontinued, at least temporarily. As this is what most people feel there local dues were paying for I have no problem if members who weren’t at this meeting want to voice there opinion as to whether this is alright. In trying to boost attendance at these functions as well as local Austin MUFON chapter memberships I am asking all past and present Austin MUFON members for feedback.
If you have any questions please feel free to call, write, or email me at the following addresses.
Sincerely,
Stephen Miles Lewis
State Section Director for Travis and Williamson Counties
