Austin MUFON Local File#920323-1
SUBJECT: Sighting Of Triangular UFO
TYPE OF REPORT: General
DATE OF REPORT: May 26, 1992
DATE OF UFO SIGHTING: February 25, 1990
TIME OF UFO SIGHTING: 10:30PM CST
PLACE OF SIGHTING: Wimberley, Hays County, Texas, USA
LOCAL ELEVATION: Unknown of Ordinary Significance
FIELD INVESTIGATOR: T. David Spencer

SIGHTING ACCOUNT: “Scott was visiting his parents just west of Wimberley, Texas during the weekend of February 24-25, 1990. The area is farmed out but is also generally wooded near the Blanco Bend River. Between 10:00 and 10:30pm on the aforementioned date, Scott was walking home from a nearby Dairy Queen. He was aware of the time because he had just gotten a new watch recently and was looking at it frequently. It was a quiet, dark and very cool evening with clear skies and bright stars. The new moon occurred on this night so the sky was moonless.
Scott happened to look skyward in order to observe some of the constellations, “And there it was!”, he said. His first thought was, What the hell is THAT?” He was not afraid, he said, but was amazed. He had considered himself to be sceptical about UFO’s, so the experience was impressive and highly elating.

The object was triangular in shape, but it was as if the points of the triangle had been cut off. The cut was perpendicular to the bisection of the anglefor the leading apex, and the other two points were either cut the same as the leading apex or cut perpendicular to the trailing edge of the UFO.

Scott raised his arm to an angle of about 60° as an indication of the initial zenith angle relative to him. He could see only the underside surface of the object and it was glowing faintly orange over it’s entirety, like very hot metal. There were no lights and no visible protuberances, but Scott did appear to notice what appeared to be geometric shapes on the surface, formed with straight lines. He believes that these were part of the objects structure, rather than decals (painted). He said that the object was “remarkably similar” to those depicted in the “Unsolved Mysteries” segment on Belgium UFO’s.

Scott aproximated the arms-length size of the object to be 4″-4.5″ (or 10-12 times the size of a full moon). He guessed that the object must have been over 1000 feet away, but then indicated that he was not too good with scales or distances.
The vehicle was moving very slowly and in a straight line from south to north (from his right to his left) perpendicular to his walking direction. There was no sound of any kind from the vehicle or otherwise-including no dogs barking. (Any dogs barking would probably have been due to the presence of the object.)
He was so taken by the once sighting that he never once gave thought to the possibility that other such objects may have been in the area. Scott said that he must have watched the object for ten minutes before it passed out of site behind the trees. It never changed speed, direction or altitude during that time. After the object disappeared from view, Scott continued to stand and look for several minutes, totally awestruck by the experience.

Immediately upon returning home, Scott called the Hays County Sheriff’s Department and reported the sighting. The Dispatcher told him that THERE HAD BEEN OTHER CALLS REGARDING A UFO SIGHTING THAT VERY EVENING!
Later, early Monday morning, Scott called a local Austin FM Radio Station and told a DJ friend of his sighting. After watching the NBC Network’s UNSOLVED MYSTERIES program on the Belium UFO’s during the late fall of 1991, Scott called their 800 number and reported his sighting.

In March Of 1992, Scott called an Austin Parapsychology group who referred him to someone named John (doesn’t remember last name). John pointed Scott to some woman (name not remembered) who referred him to Austin MUFON. On March 23, 1992, Scott called Austin MUFON and told Mrs. Ellen Stuart of his sighting. Ellen provided an outline of the sighting to me on March 28, 1992 at a regular MUFON meeting. Scott also called the Hays County Sheriff’s Department to get more information on the UFO sighting. He was told that they had no record of his report or any other report of the UFO.

On May, 25, 1992 at 2:00pm CST, I met with Scott at his residence and received his report.”

screaming whistle with bright light hit windshield with a shocking vibrating noise and disappeared.

Sitting at a stop light I heard a loud whistle, like something I’ve heard in a fireworks display, at the same time a round light hit my windshield and fluttered really loud like a shock sound. I thought my convertible top was fried, so I pulled over to the nearest parking lot. My top was untouched and my windshield was clean.

On Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at 8:50 p.m., eyewitness M.R. reported, “I was coming home from a fishing trip in Sargent, Texas. I had just turned off FM587 on to FM2611 when, all of a sudden, the lights in my car blinked twice, and then the car went dead.”

“I coasted to a stop at the top of a small hill that was a curve. I was frightened. For one, I am female and was traveling alone, and I was in the middle of nowhere. I thought that the reason for the power giving out in my car was because my brother had been using my car battery earlier in the day and may not have tightened the battery cables properly.”

“I didn’t have a flashlight (torch in UK–J.T.) on me and I grabbed my cell phone to let someone know what had happened. Then I decided to get out of the car, knowing that my cell phone had a bright light on it, and I was going to check the battery cables.”

“Before I could open my cell phone to turn it on, a bright bluish glow started to light up a wooded area across the highway from me. At first I thought it was another vehicle coming up behind me, and I panicked for a moment because my car had stopped on top of the hill on a curve, and, if the vehicle was coming up the curve too fast, it would hit me.”

“But I realized quickly that it was not another vehicle. I couldn’t quite identify the light, but the woods got suddenly brighter. The light went bright like a blue-white light bulb. It was more like the light from a giant blue flashlight or helicopter (search) light.”

“I watched it slowly start moving upward through the trees. I sat in complete silence while I watched it move up out of the trees until it was above the trees and clearly in the sky with the stars for a background. It was a huge bluish translucent ball of light, with the center of the ball much darker than the outer edges.”

“The outer edges of the ball seemed to vibrate or tremble slightly. It continuously rose up into the sky, at first slowly, but, the higher it got, the faster it went. Which was straight up into the sky until it disappeared.”

“I sat in the silent darkness for a few seconds and then turned my car keys, which I had never taken out of the ignition switch, and the car started right up.”

The UFO “was about 30 to 40 feet (9 to 12 meters) up. It was huge, maybe 30 to 40 feet (9 to 12 meters) across, but I could be mistaken. It was much larger than my car– a Volvo DL wagon. I resumed my drive to Sweeny, Texas.”

Sargent is in Matagorda County, on Texas’s Gulf of Mexico shore about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Galveston. (Email Form Report)

Expert Says East Texas Is Hotbed For UFO Sightings, Has Video To Prove It

For as long as there have been cameras, folks have captured on film what they say might be from another world.

Or, they say the UFOs might be a secret aircraft the government doesn’t want us to know about.

Despite the true answer, the fascination with the strange objects in the sky is stronger than ever, mainly because of the internet.

B.J. Booth says it’s just a great mystery.

What is this in the East Texas sky?

“We know there are many objects that are seen, photographed, and videotaped by reputable individuals.”

Booth speaks for a man in Kaufman County — a man named Larry who doesn’t want the spotlight. He just took these pictures, and video.

“To be honest, I don’t even know his name. Just Larry,” Booth says.

Over the past few years, Booth says his video shows objects that defy explanation. Like a strange white object moving toward a low flying plane.

“He was picking up some objects in his camera that he wasn’t really seeing or didn’t notice when he was taking his film.”

Some of the video and pictures are just of strange lights in the night sky — moving quickly. But some of the pictures Larry has sent to Booth’s website, www.ufocasebook.com are jaw-dropping.

“We haven’t been able to supply a lot of answers, and no one has because these objects have not been able to be identified,” Booth says.

Take for instance a bronze colored shape. It doesn’t look to be a plane.

Neither does a spectacular beacon of light moving within the clouds in the daytime.

“They cannot be explained by anything that we know of, or anything that’s flying today in our skies,” Booth proclaims.

He says he’s never seen a UFO himself, but believes the photos and video from Kaufman County are authentic.

There was something up there.

And he wants an answer from someone.

“There are so many of them that there aren’t really the resources or personnel to actually go out and further investigate these things,” he says.

There’s no shortage of people who might say this activity is military.

Strange reddish lights in a triangular pattern might be some experimental aircraft.

Some others might say they’re spacecraft.

Booth says the government is mum about these pictures, that his source, Larry doesn’t have a clue, and that he hopes someone has an idea.

“What is it? [Larry's] asking us. I don’t have an answer for him,” Booth says.

Every day studying these pictures and others from East Texas skies just deepens the mystery.

What might be looking on us from above?

[Editor's note: It is easy for us to be deceived by tricks of technology, and this article helps to substantiate the need for us to be technically competent in the flaws and fallacies of instrumentation, or at least, have someone close at hand who is.]

Two months ago, the Houston UFO Network (HUFON) presented to its members a portion of a videotape entitled “Messengers of Destiny,” produced by Lee Elders for Genesis lll Productions. “Messengers” purports to have hard the evidence for the existence of UFOs — videotapes taken by hundreds of individuals showing a daylight sighting of what appears to be a solid, structured, metallic craft hovering over Mexico City during the total solar eclipse of 1991.

I had heard rumors of such an event occurring over a year ago but had dismissed them as unsubstantiated. If such an event truly happened, why hadn’t the public heard about it through the national press that was there to cover the total eclipse? Why hadn’t we seen a mention of the event in the supermarket tabloids — surely they couldn’t have passed up a story like this! At the very least, why hadn’t the members of MUFON heard anything from our world-wide network about such a monumental occurrence?

The visual evidence presented in the form of computer-enhanced videos is very persuasive, and to say the interest level here in Houston is high would be an understatement. “Incontrovertible proof, at last!” I have heard some say.

I immediately ordered a copy of the tape! I felt like the first kid on the block to have the latest new toy. Wanting to show off my new “find” to my less fortunate fellow members to the west, I phoned Stuart of Austin MUFON. “Why, no!” she said, “We haven’t seen it yet, but Ron Johnson told us quite a ago that there was nothing to it.”

“Nothing to it?” I snorted. “We’re talking daylight sighting here, Ellen. Metallic disk! Hundreds of different witnesses!!”

“Well, okay, bring it to the February 27th meeting and we’ll watch it then,” she said. I readily agreed to do so, anxious to show Austin MUFON just what a real Mexico City UFO looks like.

As it turned out, Ron Johnson had a conflict for February 27th; it was his son’s tenth birthday. Maybe, he thought, he could miss this one. He called Ellen, who informed him that next to nothing was actually planned to take place that meeting, and that she had agreed to let Andy Abercrombie from Houston bring a video of the Mexico City sightings. That news changed everything for Ron! As the Deputy Director of Investigations, Ron had to attend, however briefly.

He had already seen the video and knew the impact it would have on untrained observers, like me unless he could first explain to the group exactly what it was they were being shown. Much like the Lone Ranger, Ron Johnson rode to the rescue that morning. As I was to learn, such is the dedication of this talented researcher.

Ron explained that in daylight, a computer-enhanced, stationary object such as videotaped and witnessed by hundreds of individuals during the 1991 solar eclipse in Mexico City – was nothing more than our old friend, the planet Venus!!

According to Ron, Venus is never more than 20 degrees away from the sun. If Venus had not been in the sky at the time of the solar eclipse, then that fact would have been a story making headlines. If you know where to look, and it’s not too close to the sun, a person can see Venus during the daylight hours — information the field investigator’s class had just covered, page 59 of the Field Investigator’s Manual. (I have watched the tape again since Ron’s explanation, and nowhere in “Messengers” is the planet Venus ever mentioned. If its proximity to the sun presented even the slightest possibility of the object’s misidentification by the observers, that fact should have been addressed by the film’s producers/investigators.)

Ron then showed us a videotape of Venus he had taken from his backyard just after sunset the day before. He explained that when a small bright object is recorded against a blank, featureless background, the videocamera’s circuitry will place a thin, black line beneath the object as a means of separating it from the background. The recorded scene zoomed from a wide angle view of Ron’s backyard, up to the sole bright object in the sky – Venus. As predicted, below the bright object was a black line. This black line is always below the object, no matter what the position of the camera. At that point, the scene of Venus jumped slightly on the monitor. There was the bright dot with its black line at the bottom, but as the scene widened back to a wide angle of Ron’s yard, the yard was upside down!

“It doesn’t matter whether the camera records the object upside down or rightside up.” said Mr. Johnson. “The object will still have a black line added below it when played back on the monitor. ”

Ron explained that computer enhancing a spot of light the size of what appeared In Messengers, as well as his backyard video of Venus, would in no way result in an accurate depiction of the object’s shape. When a photo or a video has been digitized for use on a computer, the image is broken down into pixels, or very small squares. An extreme enlarqement of a very small area would show the object broken into squares of light intensities — a small round object would appear to be slightly tiered because of the enlarged squares. At best, the resultinq image is a distortion.

Everything Ron said is verifiable, and with the proper equipment, should be easily reproduced. Computer enhancement of digitized images is relatively new to ufology, and the results could be easily mis- interpreted by experienced but well-meaning researchers.

Ron Johnson’s presentation answers how such a spectacular event could occur over the world’s largest city, and NOT be reported by a single news source at the time!

The event described in “Messengers of Destiny,” never happened. Rather, the object had been there all the time — the planet Venus. This also explains why it was stationary and seemed to disappear during the conclusion of the eclipse as the sky began to brighten.

Just in case you were wondering, Ron did complete his presentation in time to enjoy his son’s birthday party.

From what I heard, he had as great a time as the kids did at the party!

Andy Abercrombie is Texas MUFON’s newest Assistant State Director. He has written articles for HUFON and is training to become a Field Investigator at monthly field investigator training classes held in Austin.
